Classification and performance comparison of forged aluminum alloys

Release time:2019-9-25

Talking about the aluminum alloy wheel can not help but reminiscent of the classification of aluminum alloy materials.

Aluminum alloy can be divided into two types: wrought aluminum and cast aluminum.
Forged aluminum is hot-processed or cold-formed into an unmelted aluminum billet, which is obtained by pouring molten aluminum into a mold and casting it.
The naming rules for forged aluminum alloy grades were proposed by the American Aluminum Association (AA) in 1954 and have been widely accepted and adopted. China has adopted and followed the naming method and formulated relevant specifications based on the state code of the US standard. . The strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance of different grades of forged aluminum alloys vary with the chemical composition (aluminum and other minor additions). The 4xxx series is mainly used for welding materials and is not included in the comparison range. In addition to the influence of chemical composition, the subsequent treatment of forged aluminum alloys will also have a great impact on its mechanical properties. Among the various aluminum alloys, the 2xxx, 6xxx and 7xxx series are heat treatable aluminum alloys, usually using a heat treatment method (T); the other systems are non-heat treated aluminum alloys, often treated by cold work hardening (H). The 6xxx series contains magnesium and silicon. This series of aluminum alloys has good corrosion resistance and strength similar to that of Q235 steel, and is easy to be extruded. Most of the aluminum alloy profiles used in building structures belong to this series, such as 6061. -T6 aluminum alloy, widely used in aluminum alloy space structure.
